At 18 years old, Isabelle Vita has the routine split between learning and teaching. During the week - at night - she attends the second period of law in a particular college Garanhuns in Pernambuco Agreste. On Saturdays it is dedicated to teach in an English course for the visually impaired in the same municipality. Isabelle teaches classes on a voluntary basis for a class of ten students at the Centre for Educational Support for People with Visual Impairment (CAP).
The young teacher tells how it feels to give classes and what motivates you to continue with this project. "For me being very good and enjoyable teaching at CAP. I know that if they [visually impaired] seek Courses [English], could hardly have opportunity. And see that they are actually learning is very rewarding. I realized that many of my students are already understanding the language, including some speak a few sentences in English, "said Isabelle.

English classes of the CAP began in August this year and - according to Isabelle - the duration of the course expectancy is six months, but there is the possibility of being extended. She explains that the focus of the classes is conversation, due to the deficiency of the students. "First I tell them the word in English, then they write as they wish. Then show the correct way and then they write in Portuguese, in order to capture exactly what is being given. Some write in Braille and others use the computer ", explained Isabelle.
The idea for the course came on a project designed by Isabelle in college. The invitation to teach at CAP came by the management organ, Lenice Couto, who is visually impaired and aunt of the young teacher. "Delivering these lessons here is a way to promote the autonomy of blind and low vision. Each challenge is always won when we oportunizados. There are no limits when one wants to learn. It is necessary that society understands that visibility has to be in person rather than the disability, "said the aunt.
Lenice also pointed out that the realization of this course is a step forward in the fight against prejudice. "Before we are blind, we are people. Courses such as these cause us to walk in the opposite direction of the group of people who think that we can do nothing. And so, we will face challenges and overcome prejudices," he said. She also said she took the opportunity to learn the new language. "Besides aunt, I am now Isabelle student. I could not let you take advantage of these classes," he joked.
Exchange
Isabelle lived in Tourbay Vita, located in the province of Newfoundland - Canada - between August 2013 and January 2014. She participated in the program "Win the World", created by the Government of Pernambuco, to study in another country. "This time I spent outside Brazil was a great learning period" he said.
